Artwork and reflections from participants in a 1996 study at the University of South Australia. Participants engaged in small group workshops using guided meditation, artmaking, and verbal sharing, and were subsequently interviewed about their experience.
‘… the snake represents some powerful energy or knowledge that is wanting to express itself through me.’ ‘The pictures have an energy behind them that is part of myself and part of my creative spirit.’ ‘When I embraced that image … it gave me back part of myself.’ ‘All the pain and the trauma … was just this one wound.’
‘What it means to me is protection and it makes me feel that I am safe. … I can just close my eyes and go back to that place.’
